TR6 This frame was sectioned

Surprise surprise. Looks like this 6 had some serious trouble. Frame looks like it was cut in half and welded together. Looks like a good job but will know once I get to measure it. The front shock tower support bar is another issue. I brought this up before and maybe has something to do with the sectioning. My hope is when I take the bolts and bar out that it snaps back where it is suppose to be. If not more measurements and possibly to a frame machine.

Plans are to strip the frame down and take it to have it dipped. They also do a e-coat. This frame had so much mud and grime you couldn't see the deterioration in the trailing arm cross member. Was hoping to have to not replace them. May cut one open and see what's inside.

Interesting...it may have had a donor front grafted in after a bad accident at some point.

ya that's what I'm thinking. There are some parts of the car body that are painted a bright metallic green under the signal red paint and the burgundy color on top of that. Where the rockers and the B post come together there is some heavy welding there. Patches or gussets too. I know the car was last driven in 1982 and don't know much more about it. For a 13 year old car to have that much paint work done has got to be fairly rare and leads me to think that something happened. Pulled the windshield off and that green paint was under the seal. So someone went to a lot of trouble to do a good paint job.

or did a masterful job to hide what was underneath.....

Please be aware that e-coat is not UV stable and it will need to be scuffed and top coated.

Yes thanks. I have a good frame paint to go over and I sell a body cavity wax protector that will get sprayed into the frame when all repairs are done. I did my TR250 that way. Tilted it on one side then sprayed it in heavy so to run into the seams. After a couple of days to set up I flipped it over to the other side and did it the same way. Should be good longer then I will need it.

That is some serious surface rust :chuncky:
Do you have plans on generally strengthening the chassis in other areas.

It's like that across the entire frame. However the pics makes it look worse then it is. My concerns are in the inside of the frame. I'll find that out once I get it stripped and stand it up and see what I can knock out of it.
