I’m kind of surprised no one has posted about this yet. It was on this day July 20, 1969 that Neil Armstrong took that famous step & uttered those famous words, “that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
I was just shy of my 15th birthday and remember it like it was yesterday. We were all gathered around our zenith black-and-white television, watching in awe like the rest of the world.

I too remember it. Watched in my freshman year of college also on a B&W TV.
It was exciting to see it happening live.

Same TV I watched the moon landing on. I was a junior in college and lived in a converted one car garage. Them wuz th' daze.

Do I remember it? I HAD ONE!
It was a small Sony black and white much like the one above that I used all through college.
 
Summer after my freshman year here as well; watched it in the student union at LSU.
 
yep - exactly the TV I had too! (was my first TV ... mom and dad had a Sony color TV)
 
I was just about 12 then, we watched it on the TV. I have a copy of the original film, folks don't know that the picture quality when taken was quite good and the fuzziness and poor resolution was due to bandwidth restrictions in transmitting the signal back to earth.
 
Almost forgot…. I saved the front cover of the NYT from 1969 and had it framed all these years. It hangs in my office.

I’ll be willing to bet that even if we watched it on a color TV the image would’ve looked the same as it did on the black-and-white TV.

Not much color up there on the moonscape.
 
Watched it at my parents' house with them and my college GF. We all thought a Moon base and a mission to Mars would follow by 1980.

Optimism.

There is a streaming TV series that I've watched some of at a friend's house that expanded that vision - the fictional premise being that the Soviets beat the US to the 1st moon landing and as a result the US pushed its space program really hard to establish the 1st moon base, the Soviets followed suit and so forth out to Mars. Havn't seen it all but what I've watched thus far is, while obvious fiction, not outside the range of plasuible or believable in terms of technology development and human nature.
