hmmm - so he couldn't pronounce "BILLIONS" ? :laugh:

I did watch that Mt Everest show. A re-enactment using many original pictures from the original ascent. I had trouble keeping all the characters straight - but that's actually part of the Everest problem itself.

There are so many "well off" tourists who want to say they climbed Everest, that there's a cottage industry of western guides and local sherpas who help the tourists up the mountain (gack!). Leaving trails of litter, oxygen bottles, meds, and garbage (and a few bodies ...). Climbers often have to actually wait in line to reach the summit now. argh.

I came to that conclusion a few years ago. All it takes now is the price of admission. Some day soon Neal Armstrong's footprints will be roped off with those velvet and brass "bank ropes" to keep the tourists from destroyin' 'em.
