I have a commercially produced version of that called The Airzooka!
I can attest it has a range of at least 40 feet. Great fun on a youth retreat weekend.
The back side is heavy plastic attached at the center with a big rubber band. pull back the knob, and let her rip.
I wish I had the smoke machine to go with it.
Getting hit by the vortex is pretty startling. You would never suspect how powerful it is.
I fully recommend making the one like the kids in the video. You'll have loads of fun.
