TR6 Thinking of selling my TR6

Please tell me what you think. I'm thinking of selling my 1976 TR6. I took it apart for a frame off restoration approx 10 years ago. Before that I had the motor professionally rebuilt and have turned it over every 6 months since. It turns freely with no issues. The car has been completely dismantled for the frame-off restoration. I just have not had the time (or money) to complete the project. Sad I know. So now I am thinking of parting with it and letting someone who has more time and expertise to finish it. Every part is there including a removable hard top. The carbs were professional rebuilt by Joe Curto in NY. This car ran beautifully before it was taken apart. So now I want your opinion. Is there a market for a completely dismantled TR6? If so, what kind of money are we talking? I'm not going to just give the thing away. I would like to see it go to a good home. Yes, there is a market, but unfortunately, you can not begin to return your original investment. It is hard to evaluate a car without pictures, but what is the shape of the body.....rust, good paint, and how is the interior? In CA, a complete roller goes for $2 to 4K, a running car needing major work (like interior and paint) is 4$ to 6K. I would put your car in CA without more information in the 2K to 6K range. As Scott said, you will not get much for the car disassembled. Maybe a quarter to third of the value reassembled and finished.The shape of the sheetmetal and tub will be a real deciding factor. With rust free tub you might get $4k. Most disassembled cars are in the the $2k range.

I concur with the others. The market for project cars that are apart is pretty small and sell for a significant discount. Seeing how you can buy an excellent TR6 for $15k, the upside is just not there for project cars. I pick up projects like this and usually from disappointed sellers. It is easy to test the market by placing electronic ads on ebay, Craigslist, forum sale sections.

In this economy, your car is not going to find many buyers who want to restore it, especially one in pieces. Even though I trust you that everything is there to put her together, there will always be questions. Add to that hauling away an unassembled car. Not a nice picture. IMO, those people who we bless when they have a part we need will be the most interested. The parts guys, the "pickers" if you like. I do not want to imply they are wolves. because they are not. They do have a lot of overhead and are taking a chance someone has what they can provide. It may take them days to years of storage before all the parts are sold. If you can get $2-3k, sell it.
