Thinking about the stock fan

So I was musing about the replacement of the stock fan.
I know all the plusses, and I already did it.

I was trying to figure out if the weight on the front that came off could affect the amount of damping required on the crank, but I'm having a senior moment. I ~think~ it should, but keep second guessing myself...

Anyone with two still-working brain cells to rub together ever think about this? What was the conclusion?

I was thinking about that when I sent my damper off to Damper Dudes. I talked to Ron there about what I was doing and he felt that with the engine rebuilding, line boring, balancing and all, that it was the best thing that I could do to get rid of it.

I asked him the benefit, if any for the engine staying stock (factory balanced) and he said that it was still a benefit because it was out hanging in front of the damper and mass of the crank. I gathered that the damper should be the last heavy part on the end of the crankshaft.

Give him a call and ask him. He's a great guy to talk to.

Does great work too!

They rebuilt mine a while back. I was thinking that you might not need as much damping if you took it off.

Then again all the rest of my rotating components are lighter, and I didn't think about them either...

Looks like you're ahead of the game. Time to forget about the TR6 for awhile.

Better start to concentrate on getting ready to add FI to your wife's new TR8.

I was looking at stroker cranks earlier. Sounds like it is a pretty easy (and cheap) job to convert it to a 4.6.
It's a disease I have, I swear...

You don't ever want to get into a conversation with my buddy Woody who owns the Wedge Shop here in MA. I have to walk a way from him or I'll be buying a TR8 and getting divorced all in the same week!!

Does he ever know and love those 8's.

I just love hearing him pull his personal car in line at the shows. That red beast of his sounds soooo good!!
