Thinkin' of going with a new coil...thoughts?

I'm looking for a decent replacement coil for my 1275. I've been trouble-shooting some fuel issues for some time now. Since the coil is the ONLY thing I have not friggin' replaced, I'd like to know what you all recommend. The engine is a bit sporty, so I'd like something a little more than a stock replacement.

In the 60's we used Ford.

Bosch Blue.

And paint it Lucas Silver (the case anyway) before you install it......even order a Lucas sticker for it!

I would recommend that you whatever coil BRAND you decide upon, be sure that it's a 3 OHM coil. (I have the pertronix) That way when you decide to go to electronic ignition whether Pertronix or Crane, you won't have to buy yet another new coil.

Consider this another vote for Bosch Blue. However, Google for information on the blue coils before you rush out and buy one. It appears that Bosch now sources them from several places around the world and some are better than others.

Don't invest in a high output coil unless you also change to electronic ignition. The benefit of the performance coils can't be realized fully until you can open up the spark plug gap and you can't do that by very much with a points ignition system due to the dwell value they operate at.

I do have a Lucas electronic distributor. If I go with the Bosch, what should I gap my points to?

"Electronic" distributors as were recommended above by dklawson
don't have points.
