Man, that was one steep climb!!!
 
I'd like to see the climb from the side - while awesome, the footage does not really show the angle.

More importantly, I'd like to see how they filmed the take-off!! Helicopter?

Back in the Dark Ages, when the Boeing 707 (367-80) gave an early demonstration flight, the pilot decided to impress the crowd with a barrel roll.

One of the engineers aboard had a camera, and snapped this - earth down below, and the wing upside down.

What made that barrel roll impressive was he did it over lake Wa during Seafair with the UAL president present
 
He did that after he had been denied a license to compete in the unlimited hydroplane races. He turned and came back from the other direction and did it again. Always been one of my heroes.

I thought someone got canned for the stunt. Legendary when I was growing up. Famous test pilot Tex Johnston.

Composites! The flex in the wings on takeoff load is impressive. Neat to watch as he unloads it on nose-over. Would LOVE to have been on that hop!


I'd guess the photo-chase was rotor-wing. And today's equivalent of a steady-cam.
