So I'm sitting outside of Starbucks having a coffee. Two women walk by and see my scoot. One says to the other "I can't believe someone drove that "thing" here".
I just listened and never said a word.

"(S)He was mean and (s)he was coarse and unrefined." Points if you can name the song or movie. No Googling!

Immediately thought of Phil Harris and "The Thing" -

A friend of mine had his Formula Vee race car on a trailer behind his F100
that you could see through the windows of the restaurant we were eating at.
I noticed that he was getting irritated,& raised his shoulders,& muttering something
under his breath.
Turns out that the three businessman at the next table noticed his car,& while
two of them had no clue, the third, being the Genius of the group told them -
"That's one of those "Malibu Grand Prix" cars." "You know,a dollar a lap".
I always wanted to obtain a set of those decals & put them on his car.

You didn’t correct them? “That’s a Lambretta, not a Volkswagen!”

Yow, sad story. Hope the coffee was delicious nonetheless!

Coffee was good. Actually one of the women called it a Vespa (oh the humanity ).
