Thermostat questions

100degC = 212degF = boiling point of water

94degC is about 202degF. Seems a little high for normal running (assuming your IR thermometer is correct).

My temp gauge went askew a while back. I tried moving the needle--it's a press fit--but couldn't get it right. Had it overhauled and calibrated by West Valley Instruments and 'acquired' about 14PSI of oil pressure at idle in the process.

I was able to reposition the needle on the temp gauge. Had to do this because was unable to remove the bulb.

Undid the holder bracket, slid the gauge into the passenger compartment and rotated the bezel till the bezel tabs and slots lined up and could remove the bezel and glass. Used fine point angled needle nose pliers to pull the needle off. Right angle tweezers would work OK, too.

Pressing it on was more difficult than getting it off. I heated the engine to 190d then carefully pressed it on (just enough to grab) with my fingers - then checked its position against the cooking thermometer in the thermostat housing. Had to repeat a couple of times before pushing it on all the way.

IMHO the best tool would be some kind of rubber-lined right angle tweezers.

Also before attempting this, make sure to have a replacement o-ring for inside the glass bezel as well as the larger sealing ring which goes between the gauge and the dashboard.

I've checked this setup with the cooking thermometer and HF laser sensor - temps jibe so I have faith that at least at 190 it's accurate.

I will follow your instruction, when return from my holiday, I have also one other instrument (with sensor pipe cut by PO)
that can be used for training
Cheers

Diary
Law confirmed again:
After a half hour trip, I returned to home over a hill, the engine stops just at one meter from the door, starter won't turn in any manner!!
Only with the help of my two neighbours, I overtake the climb and can go in the garage, naturally after few minutes, starter turn normally as usual, this morning engine start at the first turn

My friend Peter Roses troubleshot Sarah Frost's 100M - similar problem. Car would run for a couple of miles then die by the side of the road, then cool down a bit then run, etc.

Turned out to be the battery cutoff switch. Worked OK when cold but failed when hot.

OK as usual I agree with you,
and my purpose is jump the battery cut-off switch,
I have read a lot of similar question on it, and when I have wired my car I was tempted to jump it-
is a easy and reversible mod, and car maintain its concours originality.

The ground cable and the battery cable must be fit on the same upper bolt of the
CO Switch- and white/black wire disconnected and insulated
On the other Pole can be added one modern, and effective Cut Off(my car is Mod to NEGATIVE ground) BJ2.jpg
I will follow this way
Cheers

Diary Friday 28
first trip with a passenger, my wife (volunteer???)first part of my standard test road, OK-
At the turn to return to home, I have heared that NO GAS arrive to the carbs, go immediately to the side road, and managed to find the reason, few second after turning the key I have heard the blinking of my FACET pump, and car start and run as usual, returned safe at my garage
Diary Saturday 29
some little work on the car in the morning.
afternoon -Same 10 miles standard test road,(first part flat, second section two hill, one very hard) all OK, no problems at all.

Now car is nearest to the his first 50 miles, I go to holidays,
and at the return I make the suggested mod. to control if this mystery fails disappear.
My Cut Off switch is a NEW unit, tested at the bench, but obvious on the road all change
