Does anyone pay any attention to those anymore? Read a great story written by an ex car thief. He was after a Corvette. Each night around 3 am he would bump the car and the alarm would go off. Owner unhappily came out, reset it. Next night same thing. After 3 or 4 nights of having his sleep disturbed, owner assumed alarm was faulty, turned it off and the following night the car was gone.
 
wow i never would have know this thread would have gotten so many posta and i never knew it was gonna go on for almost 2 years anyways those car alarms do noting. i have a camera on my car in a visable location so i can watch tapes and see when something happens and get the person on some real evidence. no one has messed with my car since. but if someone really wants your car theres not much that can stop them. you could rig a global positioning system in it just incase it gets stolen. hefty price for a what if though.
 
You know, I was on my home after a late night at work last week. I stopped in for a drink at a local brew pub and met this guy. One drink led to another and the conversation got pretty lively. This guy was bald, nothing new because every where I look these days I see bald guys. Anyway, he had this terrible scar on the back of his head. After a few more drinks and more lively conversation, I garnered up enough courage to ask him about the scar on the back of his head. He gave me this long drawn out story, something that happened way back in '69. Something about trying to swipe this stereo out of a car... he thought it was like and triumph or something. Not sure, some sort of little sports car that he thought would be an easy target. As he explained it, "Something shocked the "@#$%^*!" daylights out of me". "The reaction caused my *#@%@$ head to jolt upward striking the $^@#$@! [censored] rearview mirror!" "It sliced the @#$&*%% crap out of my @#$*%! head". He made it to the hospital okay but lost lots of blood in the process. "One heck of a @#%*%$$! crazy night", as he remembered it. A few more drinks and we parted company. battery cutoff switch.$12..or racing cutoff switch.$70-80 (cuts off battery, fuel pump, dizzy)...then don't lose the key to the switch.
 
My neighbor has a nice Saab. When it was new he bought a good stereo for the car. One night it was stolen. After insurance he installed a new stereo and had a very good alarm system installed. Two weeks later the stereo and the alarm was stolen from the car. After two weeks of hard work cleaning out the garage, he solved his problem.

I heard a car in the neighborhood one night about 3:00am. When out to see what was going on and heard the sound of glass being broken down the street. Called 911 and reported that a car break-in was happening. Waited ten minutes, nothing. When out and looked down the street, they were working an another car. Called 911 again and got told off for calling a second time. Never did see a police car that night. I drive a Dodge Caravan with an alarm system and a radio that will not fit any other car. It takes a half hour to remove the radio. (Had it repaired once so I know how hard it is to remove.) The MG lives in the garage. Get the car off the street!!!
 
radios come out alot easier than you think. my friend totaled his car so he wanted the radio out and called me, we were taking our time using the tools and it was taking a while and he didnt care aobut the car so we riped the dashboard out of the car and riped teh radio out in less that 1min 30 secs. takes awhilet do it the right way but if you just want the radio its not hard and doenst take long
 
suppose you could be nasty and weld a batch of treble fish hooks some place they have to reach to get the radio out....
 
Speaking as one who wore a badge for 11 years full time and ever since (7 years) as a reserve officer, I would suggest thinking twice, if not thrice, about any of the more retaliatory suggestions heretofore mentioned.

Taking one of the earlier suggestions a step further, I might add a video tape recorder or camcorder to the motion activated light so that I might catch the little vandal in the act. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Then I'd arrange a private viewing of the successful recording with a representative from the local constabulary to put an end to the show.

Or maybe try the low-tech approach, and ask your neighbors to keep an eye open for you. Chances are you have a neighbor who is awake when you're asleep, and is bored watching late night re-runs.

If you're friendly with your local investigator, ask if he has access to any ninhydrin powder or some other similar marking powder you can put on the vandal's favorite target. Ninhydrin reacts with amino acids and will turn the fellow's hands (and anything else he touches on his body) a purplish color for a couple of days. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
