The Winter Olympics Begin!

I can't wait for hockey...some of my favourite Pens players are representing Team Canada.

*sigh*

You guys win the first round... Your American skier beat our Canadian in ladies freestyle skiing... I guess someone has to win but it's rather disappointing and didn't make my night :frown: we'll get our chance yet... :hammer: The big deal this year is that no Canadian has won a gold medal on home soil (two previous Olympics - Montreal & Calgary), so far we're still waiting...

Sherlock...Canada will definitely break through this time!

I won't disagree - but I remember watching a lot of it last time for some reason. Luck of the draw I suppose.
I also remember watching (and enjoying) a lot, and it looks as if there's pretty good coverage this time again if you get USA, CNBC, and MSNBC stations.
Here's the schedule (EST): https://www.hdsportsguide.com/news/2010/vancouver-olympics-curling-schedule/

... Some events and the contestants competing in them, you hardly ever see. For their exposure, it doesn't seem fair.

:iagree:

Hardly any curling is ever shown. Seriously, at the last Winter Olympics, the only time curling was shown was in the late afternoon on one of the cable channels. It one of those sports that once you figure out what's going on, it becomes chess on ice. The strategy and precision required is enormous.

On a sad note, during practice yesterday, there was a death in a luge accident. He ran off the track at 89 mph and slammed into a steel girder.

Curling is listed on the Olympics web page and I think it's scheduled to be shown on TV. The committee has done a wonderful job on setting up the web site. It's really cool how it works and makes it easy to find out anything about the events. If you have Bing for a search engine, you can get to it directly through their link.

Woo-Hoo! Canada takes gold!! Way to go!

Congratulations Canada on the GOLD MEDAL.

And I missed it...

I've only been home so far for about an hour today, I don't live my life by the Olympics...

My son's girlfriend has been keeping us amused with her Olympic "symbolic" photos. She's a native Canadian who recently acquired US citizenship who naturally leans a bit to the north in her Olympic sympathies. (She is also participates in several triathlete events every year). I thought you guys might like them. (I have her permission to use them.)

Saw a little today. Canada vs US is Sunday. Should be a preview of the gold medal game. Go USA!

I like all of the Olympics, including skating and the new snowboard-cross event. The Olympics is one of the few things I will actively watch on TV.

I was very sad to see the luge accident. If you watched any of the NBC reporting on the luge, you probably saw commentating by my old pal, Duncan Kennedy, a coach for the US Olympic Luge team. He and his wife are also car racers and I've raced against them both a bunch of times.

One of the previous USA Olympic curling teams was formed up mostly by a bunch of folks who worked in the same pizzeria! (in Bemidji, Minnesota)

John: I love the beer-themed Canada/USA diorama.
It somehow reminds me of ~This Commercial~ (one of my all-time favourites).

The Olympics is the only thing on our TV when their being televised. We've always been crazy about them, Summer and Winter.

Lindsey Vonn did th' deed.

wow.

I think I'm addicted! Turn em on as soon as I can and I've watched every event, interview and replay....I already dread the withdrawals when they are over.

The downhill ski racer, rare breed indeed. Ms. Vonn does it better than anyone, it seems, and looks wonderful doing it. Now she has the gold!

80+ MPH, flying down a craggy, icy mountain. No protective gear except a little helmet . . .

Fearless, more guts than Dick Tracey.

Wow.

Yeah that was ok. The other stuff just looks like a bunch of kids at the mall with skateboards to me. Just not my thing

All of the others snowboard events I have seen rely on judges. I prefer the events that are for time, distance, head-to-head score. In short, are objective.

The same goes for us. And what great games these have been! From the amazing opening ceremony right down to the events last night. Our kids are really enjoying it as well.

And I'm so thrilled that the first U.S. medal for these Olympics was won by a Vermonter. Hail Vermont!
