The thing I forgot to do

With the rainy season coming here on the Central Coast of California, I decided to put the bonnet on the car for the winter. I had my hood hinges painted as well as the front valence.

After much effort of adjusting and tweaking, and doing it again and again, I tightened everything up. Well sort of.

Anyway, I lifted the now attached hood, then it happened.

The passenger side of the hood went down, then came that ugly sound of paint being scraped off.

Yes, I did not tighten that side, so now I have bare metal where paint should be...

Oh, any hints on how to keep the stayrod from rubbing on the inner fender well, and how much gap do you guys have between the bonnet and the scuttle panel?

Strip of soft side of velcro on my wheel arch to prevent the stayrod from leaving a mark. I have seen alot of cars with some sort of solution or another. I experimented with bending the rod but couldn't get it any better.

Shame about the paint.

My car is in storage so I can't measure the panel gap for you.

TR6Oldtimer, check out the rubber stop that the TR4A uses, this sure helps with the rattle of the rod and keeping it off the wheel well.
