Many will recall that we moved into the house in September 2023. At the road next to the mailbox is a metal post with a box for the newspaper that no longer has a paper version. I have been planning to remove this since the day we moved in, but the ground was always too dry and it is a little awkward on a slope next to a busy street. I have amassed tools - a jack, borrowed a length of chain, a couple of 4X4s to put the jack on.

Figured this is the time - it has been a VERY wet spring so I figured the ground is as soft as it was going to get. Walked out to get the mail this morning and thought I should check and see how solidly it was mounted - so I gave it a good shake. Turns out the pole was in about a foot of gravel and I could have walked out literally any day in the past 601 and just pulled it out of the ground. It was so easy that I only needed one hand - (the mail was in the other hand)

sheesh - why do I make things so complicated. :rolleyes2: and why do I overthink literally everything.

Things like that make me happy about having that "right lobe-left lobe" switch!! I go for the "Stupid Stuff First" rule with most similar projects.

Engineering is reserved for more complex issues. ;):coffee::unsure:

My luck is always the opposite. Anytime I want something out of the ground I walk up and kick it to see if I can just pull it out. I almost always need chain, and old tire, and the granny gear in my pickup.

To be fair being a global thinker has its merits. especially at work - but it does mean that every time a light bulb burns out I have to renovate the whole house. :D

It is also genetic BTW. My brother is currently renovating his bathroom and has to constantly remind himself - just fix it - and get on to the next job rather than over analyzing. My sister a few years ago - her best friends needed a new car - and bought the first one they tried. My sister's response: 'but they didn't test drive every other car for sale in the city.'

ah well - never a dull moment
