MGB-GT The rear of a GT.

I think I'll get rid of it.
the rear seat I mean, it's as much use as a chocolate teapot and takes up space.
Has anybody else gotten rid of theirs, and made some sort of 1/4" plywood base, similar to the spare tire hatch, but extended it further forward over the battery compartment?
If so, I'd love to see some plans or measurements. I'd appreciate it.
I'm thinking covered with standard balck carpet (sound proofing beneath), with hinged compartments here and there for fluids and tools etc....TIA.

Why not just lay the seat back down & lock it there?

My seat is still in place, but it is lengthened by about a foot. When the back is down, which is always, the cargo space now extends all the way up to the seats.

That's a good alternative Steve, with the seat back forward, I still have 12" or so of no mans land before the the backs of the front seats.
Not having a glove compartment, this is good real estate for a cubby for those 'within reach' items and tools etc, that I want to keep out of sight when parked.

Good idea, Steve - lengthening the seat back...you could even put a little chrome rail around the edge so when itys down it acts as a guard rail against stuff sliding forward - ala the XKE 2+2.

The only downside of course is if you need to raise the seat back, it will block most of your view out of the back window. I have not found this to be a problem since I've only used the back seat once... ever.

I was going to remove the seat and make up a wood cover when I get to the interior on my GT but changed my mind when I realized the dog might be happier with the option of more room or the security of the seat.

I did buy the car for her, by the way.
