Hey guys,I just took a pin and put it across the points. The pump cycled one time. My question is, do you think there could be any other problem than the points? Also,I was going to buy a set of points from victoria british. Is this a good place to get them? Thank again for your help , BOBBY R

Hi Bobby, Using some fine glass paper or preferably a fine toothed point file clean the faces of the points first. Using a swab and alcohol clean them off after filing/sanding. Then see if the pump will not run on its own.

Points is points I guess and who ever is the closest just go.---Keoke--AZ- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cowboy.gif

There could be many other problems if it is an old pump. The best solution is to buy a new Lucas style pump with electronic points. Unlike the antique with points, it will run without attention for many years.

Rebuilding an old Lucas-style fuel pump is a pain. In addition to replacing the points, you probably will have to replace the diaphragm which may have hardened due to age. Even though I have rebuilt a number of these pumps over the years, it still takes me all evening to rebuild one and get it running right.

Victoria British, Moss, Little British Car all offer the same pump, I think. Shop around for the best deal.
