The Price isnt bad, but the shipping will kill ya!

Price isn't bad!?!?!?!? Have prices rocketed while I wasn't looking! Maybe they've put another 0 on by mistake!

Either a misplaced zero, another case of "Austin Healey (big) resto projects are going for big money, why not my AH Sprite" or just a very optimistic seller.

That's a riot.

Some one is on drugs.

I think the big money is actually for the incredibly rare "DOLE" engine heat retaining blanket and the custom windshield protection film.
"Engine does not run for some reason".

I saw that listing the other day and did a double take,

I assume the person who owns the MG has a spouse, and that spouse told them to sell the car they were tired of the car taking up room in the storage room, so the loving owner who plans one day of restoring the MG and cruising the island picking up red heads that look like Ann Margaret is making what looks like a attempt in selling it.

Plus adding value perception by asking so much for the MG, so now the spouse will assume value to be more than MG is worth. So now the vehicle will never be sold because spouse won't let it be sold less than perceived value (selling to cheap which would actually be true value) because of the bad economy.

So actually we have a very faithful, smart and true MG Midget follower. We should be thankful for people like this to save our little cars whether they be in Washington Flordia or Hawa.. ever how that state is spelled, from the weather, spouses, and the bad tax man.

In slight defense of the price - there can't be a large cache of restorable cars on the islands and shipping in would also be costly. I suspect it is a sellers market out there. Still it is a nutty price even for that

Sounds like me and my wife.

There isn't. My buddy lived there and he sold his '68 Firebird w/ 427/4speed for $6750 and people went nuts. Guys were calling saying they'd give him 10-12K but he already had a deposit on the car. it was running but needed a complete restoration. He bought it there a few weeks before for $3500.

Well, I'm sure that the supply of spridgets in Hawaii is not great, but you could buy a virtually perfect car on the mainland and have it shipped for quite a bit less than $12K.

I see this a lot--people attach a price to a car without doing even the simplest research to see what it's worth. I once saw a nice, but not special, Midget at a local car show with a $28,500 asking price. I continually see wildly overpriced cars on Craigslist, as well. I suppose I shouldn't expect ordinary people to be sophisticated at marketing, but, geez, anyone should be able to figure out an arguably rational price.

Things rust really bad there too.

Folks seem to think these things are worth allot more than they are. I think they see B-J and think EVERYTHING old is worth $$$.

I think it works out best for US that they're not. I couldn't afford any more of 'em. That's one thing I like about these. I can buy 'em cheap.

Part of the problem with the free ad sites; nothing to stop someone from fishing for a sucker.

Very little rust?!?!?!

Maybe he found one part that wasn't.

Beach Rot tends to eat cars up pretty bad, from the ones I have seen here with Hawaiian plates.

Is there one thing on that car that doesn't need a full restoration or replacement?

I sent him a question via fleabay, doubt if he'll answer it though:

"Dear pmchi,

the general opinion is that there are too many "00" if your asking price.
Unless we are missing something, is it the handbag on the passenger seat?

What's your real asking price?"
