I have two Bugeye generators and neither work, bad armitures.

Has anyone got a working one that maybe converted to an alternator that needs a home with loving parents.

I did post on Drews list.

Noop, the tac drive is built into the armiture.

I guess what I really need is a source for rewinding an armiture. The Calif place wants 125 buck.

Jack, since we live in Fl. and generators are such a part of our environment down here, have you done a search for a local generator repair service? Just a thought, since a generator is a generator, if you know what I mean, you might get a prompt, inexpensive local guy to look at it for you!

I did a search and found this site with local (Fl.) listings at #s 47, 84 and 102!

Here's another:

Dunno what it'd cost, but may be worth a call. I've seen about everything from 2" long motors to the G-E monsters from diesel locomotives in there. Very neat, clean shops, too.

Jack, just so you know, I had my generator rebuilt last summer. $160. Works fine now! Cheap, no, but it works and that's all I could ask for.

Generator inbound from KC. Jim converted to an alternator.

If a vehicle is converted to Alt, does it make the headlights brighter? (provided that they are upgraded, of course).

Patrick

Not if your system was working correctly before.

shucks, the lights in my new car are so bright, guess I am spoiled.

Jack
we had a warm day on Saturday so I fired up the lil smiling fire spitting dragon monster.

I would think that the old style headlights, in fact I know the old style headlights are not a bright as the new haligon ones. Remember all the discussion when they were trying to get the law passed to allow them.

Oh, a drive is always nice, sigh. Got to wait till generator arrives now. If I have serious withdrawl I supose I can reinstall the non functional one.

Look at this email I got from the generator rebuilders.

All early model Lucas generators are always in demand, we try to keep in stock as many different part numbers of Lucas generators as possible.
The reason we have a very high core charge ($200) is because since we ship our component all over the USA if we had a small core charge most customers would simply keep that extra core as a back-up and then our core supply would be gone.
If you are interested in selling your extra core, you would need to inform us what is the price you require for your core, I think this is the fairest way doing this type of transaction.

Is that strange or what, they get $225 for a complete rebuild all new windings, fields, bearings, brushs, etc., and charge a $200 core charge.

Wonder what they would give for a core???????? Any clues????

A new generator is now $200 at Moss.

Jack,
If I am reading correctly, you have a generator being rebuilt? If not, I just had one rebuilt by a local company that is considered to be the best around!! It cost $130. If you are interested send me the generator and I can take it in for you.

Have not had or am not haveing one rebuilt at the moment. I just bought one from Jim, he converted to an alternator and said it was a good one.

If this does not pan out I will need one rebuilt for sure. Seems that the sticking point is getting an armiture rewound. Did your folks do this?

I was looking at the Moss catalog last night and saw that they list a new Bugeye generator for less than $200 ($165??).
Jack- have you looked into that?
Bill

Noop, but I will if the one I got on the way does not pan out however the New Moss catalog lists em at $199 now. A full rebuild is $209.19 plus shipping.
