I've got instructions somewhere for making a Top Center finder from a duck call and an old spark plug. You put it in one spark plug hole and rotate the engine by hand with the propeller until the duck call becomes quiet. Then you're at top center, or close enough.
I bet the whole shop stops what they're doing when you use it though!
