Okay, two easy ones from here on Oahu.

Aiea, the only city I know of spelled with all vowels and

Kaneohe..

No fair if you've lived here.

and then there's Kaawa and Kaaawa.

I'll remove myself Ron as I have visited relatives in Kailua several times. Would have given me an unfair advantage. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif Some of my favorite Hawaiian names are for Lava. Phoi-hoi and A'A. Not sure if I spelled either of those right either. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Word of warning for those traveling through north western Wyoming. If you come upon a town spelled 'Dubois'. DO NOT pronounce it as the French do within earshot of a local. They prefer this more phonetic pronunciation... "Dew-boys".

Ditto on Dubois in PA. Isn't Schuylkill pronounced "Sure Kill". At least that is what my old Philly friends from college said.
And yes Randall, that would be the proper Pittsburghese pronounciation with the heavy nasal on tawny.

I am from PA as well, and planning to put together a road rally next summer. I have the route mapped out in Lycoming county. It will be a great drive through the mountains and along Pine Creek. Perhaps we can all meet then. -d

Regarding "Sure kill" for Schuylkill, that's a play on words due to the nature of the road. It's a four lane highway that is way past its prime for a city the size of Philly - traffic is awful, tempers are short, and people get a little crazy. I lived down there for 10+ years and quickly learned to avoid it.
