The "Mitty"
I had a great time! Saturday saw cool temps and a brief shower that occurred during the mid-day 1 hour Enduro, so, no harm done; Sunday was warm and sunny...couldn't have been better!
The cars are the show; I don't know how those guys get as serious as they do about the racing when they are sitting in a piece of history, but they do!
The vendor displays were excellent this year and it was good to have a chance to visit with Hap...when he wasn't busy with a customer, and there were LOTS of customers. Word is out on Superlites and Hap's display on the midway hooked and reeled 'em in. If you are in the market for wheels in the not too distant future you owe it to yourself to check out Hap's web site and click on the Superlite link.
Sunday there was a "special" race for vintage F1 cars...candy not only for the eyes, but especially for the ears. I was on the hill at turns 10A&B; you could hear them leave the start finish, negotiate the "S"s, the sweeper and hairpin, and the long stright...then they would crest the hill and get on the brakes hard before 10A...it was a symphony that ended in a visual delight. And these guys ran them pretty hard...they were turning 1:15 laps on a 2.54 mile road course in machines that start at maybe $500K and go up. Wow!
BUT...the real fun was watching the '59 Bugeye and #5 Sprite doing their thing in the Enduro...what a joy.
Will I be back next year...you betcha! Tony, Jack...it's not a far drive for you guys...plan now!
