TR2/3/3A The light at the end of a restoration

I have asked some dumb questions before but here is another. The rear tr3 fender lights are marked T and S on the socket frame for a two filament bulb. Is that Tail or Turn? That is, is the separate red beehives for running lights or turn signals? I assume S is for stop.

As always, thanks in advance.

Tail & Stop I suppose as the inner beehives are the turn signals.

The thing you'll want to check on the 2-filament set-up is that the brake/stop light is the brighter of the 2 filaments.

To be honest, I never noticed the markings. But I would still suggest applying power to see which is which. The bulb should only go in one way, which is with the low power filament connected to the tail lights and the high power filament connected to the brake lights.

If you get them backwards, your tail lights will be nice and bright, but your brake lights will be hard to see in the daytime and totally invisible at night.

I hope that light at the end of the restoration isn't powered by Lucas!

OK, just for you Randall, and because I know you enjoy a good picture as much as I do... the T and S are visible. I actually had 4 bases. All say "Lucas" and "L549" and "Made in England" -but 3 of 4 are different. Some have 2 rivets for each connection, some have the ground lug in different locations. They all have T and S and the T is connected to the small filiment (tail), and S to the large (brake/stop).

I checked a few from the junk box, with the same results except all the ones I checked with the Lucas logo had the ground connection where it hides the 'S'. I just never noticed the markings before. The one non-Lucas repro didn't have them, though.

It's still easier, IMO, to check and troubleshoot as you go. The other problem is that, on my car, the color coding on the wire is more or less invisible as well. The colors have all faded to a fairly uniform brown, no matter what it started as!

(The one green/red wire visible was added from another car, the brown wires are the original wiring harness.)
