"The Red Car" is my favourite book of all time.

Another nod for The Red Car. It's what hooked me in '61 or thereabouts. Still have a copy!
 
I love Burt's "Last Open Road" series. I've read them all, and am waiting for the next one. I took my students to the Watkins Glen Motor Racing Research Center last year to see Burt speak. They loved him too. He had all kinds of good stories.

I recently found a copy of "The Last Open Road" for a dollar at a library book sale. Signed, with a TLOR bumper sticker as a bookmark!!!! I picked it up as my loaner copy to get my friends hooked.

Burt once told me at a book signing that he's signed so many of his books, the valuable ones will be the unsigned ones.
 
I got a Barnes & Noble gift card for Christmas.
I thought that I'd buy 2-3 of Burts books for our trip to the
Outer Banks,in North Carolina.
Turns out that I can't afford to buy even two of his
books.Of course if I want to buy a "Nook",I can get it for
$9.99.Just why would I want a "Nook"?And why do I have
no idea what it is.
I bought his book "The Last Open Road",& would love
read more of his writings,but just why are they SO expensive?

Doug, right near the entrance to the Hatteras lighthouse is a small locally owned bookstore called "Buxton Books" Run by a charming lady. They have a very good selection especially for such a small store. I picked up a reprint copy of a book that was written in the 50s called "The Hatterasman". Has a lot of local lore and stories about the islands. I loved it. It was actually written just a few hundred yards from where I bought it.
