The last one.

That is very very sad. The anti-black prejudice those people faced during their training, and on into their AAF and USAF service, is mind blowing.

They fought two wars: the War against Germany, and the War against them at Home. Vets weren't always welcomed when they returned from service.

When I was just a kid I wanted to be a pilot in the worst way.
I read all about flying and I even wanted to be an astronaut before there was even a space program.
Even back then I knew about the Tuskegee airmen, but not about the difficulties they had.
That was because I was sheltered from discrimination.
I never got to be a pilot or an astronaut but always had respect for the Tuskegee airmen.

There was a lot of that sort of stuff going on. Around here, Monterey California, the Italian fishing families had their boats confiscated and the families had to move inland to the Salinas area. After the war, they got their boats back, but they were pretty much destroyed. A sad time in history.

I'm sure you've seen the movie "Red Tails." Great movie.

We're not born prejudiced and full of hate - we're taught to be prejudiced and full of hate.

From 1949's musical "South Pacific" -

My parents certainly taught me some people were different.
Probably my first real love when we lived in Brooklyn was a Porto Rican girl.
They told me I couldn't go out with her when it became serious.
What can I do to protest, I said no, then we moved to the suburbs withing months.

I think it’s a great movie, but yes, it’s Hollywood storytelling, not a Documentary.
Yes, Hollywood style has been low on my list.
I thought Top Gun -Maverick was the sappiest movie in years.
And I love Jets, and thought Top Gun was fun enough.
Tom Cruise is either great, A Few Good Men, or full of himself, Jerri McGuire.
I have a 'low sap' tolerance.

Fair enough

I'm sure had you become a pilot, you would have gotten your childhood wish and become a pilot in the worst way. :ba-dump:
(I'll show myself out)

My uncle passed away peacefully - not screaming in terror like his passengers.

That's what should happen to crying babies on a long airline flight. Actually, it should be the parent and not the child.

I'm sure you've seen the movie "Red Tails." Great movie.
They had a special showing here in Chicago when the movie came out. Several pilots and other personnel were there for meet and greets. It was very inspirational to see the movie and meet them.

I prefer the HBO The Tuskegee Airmen from the mid 90s. It's better written and better acted, plus they use combat camera footage in the dogfights. The combat camera footage gives a nice sense of realism that the video game looking CGI in Red Tails lacks.
