TR2/3/3A The joy of a TR3!

While at the Scottish Games and car show this past weekend. I met a gentleman that bought a TR3 brand new in 1960. And as the story goes had to sell it as the chrildren grew. But never lost the memories of his TR3. He was there with his Son Steve, who also had wonderful memories of the TR3. . The Gentleman was 91 years old. He had recently lost his Wife of 60 years and according to his Son "just has not been the same" When he saw the TR3 up close he sprang out of his wheelchair and spent a good part of two hours walking around looking and just enjoying the car. His son said that he haden't been this happy since his Wife passed away. (that did not sound right but we knew what he ment) He sat in the drivers seat for quite some time and no body was in a hurry to get him out. You could see the excitement in his eyes and in his smile. Many other show goers were also taking pictures of the gentleman and smiling. Talking with his son Steve about taking on a Saturday drive and I talking with a few other BCF'ers we are going to head over to there house on Saturday for a drive around the neighborhood. We will hope to have about five LBC's. Fun for him and fun for us. Thank you Pat Galvin for the opprtunity to be there. A lot of the fun of owning a LBC is the fun other people get and the smiles on the road.

Good stuff, Dan - thanks for making his day!

I could not get the smile of my face while reading your story, so special. Dan why don't you take him for breakfast, or lunch, I'll buy. PM me.

Great story and great pic, Dan. Nice job on the Karmic scale...

It made my day as well!

Great story. For a few years our club organized a run to a retirement home. Similar although not as dramatic responses. Very rewarding for both car owners and residents. Cheers, Mike

Well done. I always encourage the kids to sit in the car at shows but every once in awhile get a former owner to try it on too. You can really see it in their eyes as sitting in that seat brings back many fond memories of their old TR.

That is a very cool story!

Cheers,
Tush

Moments like those make every dollar spent and every knuckle bashed worthwhile, don't they?

Definitely one of the rewards...

BTW, neat goggles...Halcyons??

Hey Dan

So glad you could show your car at the Games. The spectator enthusiasm for all the LBCs was great. And of course, Dan's car is a wonderfully-restored TR3 and got more than its fair share of attention. Thanks for posting!

Pat

Not Halcyons, But a war surplus store item. Same with the hat. Lots of fun. and the goggles really do make a difference.

Great story, Dan.

I have several friends who are in their late 80s and early 90s who, for various medical reasons, are ambient but are pretty much confined to their homes. One suddenly lost most of his eyesight and can't even pass the time reading.

When the weather is nice and I need a short road trip, I invite one along for the ride. Believe me, it makes their day! Better than medications....

Besides, it is always more fun (for me) to have someone in the passenger seat when I hit the road.

It's just one small way of sharing the fun and privilege of having and driving one of these LBCs.

Still have a smile on my face after reading that story. It is amazing what our LBC's due to improve almost everyone's day when we have them out!
