The journey to save a family treasure!

Hey all,

My parents have had an old Austin Healey Sprite (British racing Green) for about 25 years now. Dad used to drive it to work every day, and i remember fighting with my siblings over who got to go in it on the weekends.

its been sitting in my grandparents garage for the past 7 years waiting for dad to fix it up to its former glory. but due to undforseen circumsances this will not be happening for years if i leave it to dad.. so i've stolen it! and am going to start restoring it myself as a suprise for his 55th birthday.

Cheers,

Josh

Lovely! of course we need pictures

PS, when exactly does he turn 55?

He turns 55 in November next year, so it gives me approx. 1 year and 9 months! my uncle has rebuilt the engine, so i don't have to worry about that. all i have to do is the sheet metal work (a fair amount of rust to bonnet and boot lid) source some parts such as a top boot cover and other little things.. then re-spraying British racing green.. and finally re upholstering and general tidy up of interior.. it will be a learning experience, but i have brought 2 VW golf mk1's back to life and hopefully that will help me a little.

Photos to come as soon as possable! prob by the end of the week.

Josh,
There are alot of Aussies that post on the MG Experience forum, and Mark Boldry(oner of the 1st Midget, GAN 101) outside of Brisbane might be of some help sourcing parts and the like

It's always a good thing when another old car is saves from the scrappers

Hi Josh, and welcome. There is a wealth of knowledge between here and the MG Experience. Pretty much anything you come up against, someone will have done already and be able to help out and give pointers.

Will post photos of the 1966 mk3 sprite up soon, but for now..

Very nice stable of cars you've got there. I've got a soft spot for the old Golfs (Rabbits here). We had a '79 when I was growing up.
