This is so cool.

Look at what happened from 1998 until 2008. In just ten years it has grown and grown.

Watch the pieces come together as they are sent up from Earth. This is the International Space Station (ISS) Assembly diagram, piece by piece.

I had no idea the Space Station had grown to this size. This is really cool.....

What a piece of engineering!! Could they have grown it to this size and capability if it were spin stabliized??

I think it should be maneuver'd out to L5 for better "permanence".

Has to be. It ain't gonna "fall". I just think puttin' it out at L5 would be smart... 'course I think we've up-screw'd by not havin' a moon colony established by now, too.

Hey;Have the Brits contributed? Is there any Lucas wiring on that station?

I'm sure Harrison Schmitt would agree with ya'

Reminded me of Heinlein.

BTW, there are some machinations of a movie being made of "The Moon is a harsh Mistress". Probably a SciFi channel special though. :frown:

Frank -- thanks so much for posting. I know I've heard news reports in the past that describe shuttle missions with another component for the space station, and then never think about it twice. Cool to see it come together like that.

Also a nice reminder, coming on the heels of the Olympics, what we humans can accomplish when we work together.

Really??!! That'd be magnificent!

...IF they keep it to the book...

I completely agree... but the chances are slim.

I hope they keep to the book. I remember the trailers for Starship Troopers and was so disapointed that I refuse to see the movie.

Doc, They'll never stick to the book if they make Mistress. And they would never think of incorporating the history of the characters. For years there have been stories of them making various Heinlein books, like Stranger in a Strange Land, and I've almost dreaded the outcome. :yesnod:

Too true. Father Heinlein wrote for adults, not movies. <BEFG>

Likewise I don't think there was ever a movie as bad as Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxies - one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I can just see some casting agent thinking that Keanu Reeves would be perfect for Valentine Michael Smith. Although now Keanu might be getting a bit long in the tooth to play that role.

It seems that for a time Tom Hanks owned the rights to the movie version (along with Paramount) and was interested in playing Ben Caxton.
