Just cut a deal on this. Did I really need a new project?

Gold Bugeye.jpg

The car was on eBay but didn't sell. It was located about thirty miles from me. I went down Friday and went over the car. Cut the deal this morning. Will likely have some floor pan repair otherwise pretty solid. My offer anticipated repair or replacement. Gold paint was coming off in large chunks but no body filler below. May be singing a different tune after media blasting.

I have 90+% of everything I need to restore the car. Car will eventually be either Dark BRG or Rosso Corsa red with black interior.

Remember seeing that one ln eBay. Glad you're going to make it better.

And do we ever need another project? Sometimes we just do what we have to do.

Do tell.

For me, space is always the limiting factor. I am hoping to get my #1 son to agree he no longer wants the Spitfire to make room for something new.

Ray, congrats on the purchase. I'll be looking forward to the detailed photographs you take of the process.

The MGB is done except for the niceties and the Bugeye is off to be tanked and Ecoated the first of December. I'm feeling the itch to prime the pump and may go the replica Cobra route. Anyone have experience building one?

I thought doing a 289 Cobra without the big flairs would be diferant. I don't know if that body would be available.

The Factory Five USRRC 289 replica is my favorite followed closely by the MK4. I figure for what I have in my MGB and Bugeye I could have a nice replica, but I've never driven a Factory Five Cobra and that's on my to do list in the next few months.

I had the good fortune to sit in the passenger seat in a FFR Mk I on a test drive with Dave Smith. Simply incredible. I really wanted to build a Daytona Coupe, but Massachusetts made it really questionable whether I could ever register it. So I ended up doing a Ford V8 swap in my Healey. But i relied heavily on my friends at FFR.com for help. If I was looking for a Cobra replica, I'd go Factory Five.

Rut,
almost did one of the FF Cars and almost did a Stalker Lotus 7 clone. Stalker ride in a 3.8 Supercharged V6 was an OMG experience to be sure. And now available to drop in a Chevy Crate engine. Incredible performance and handling. Instead settled for Bugsy. They are all fun choices.

The dis-assembly has begun. No real bad surprises so far. Floor pans are shot as are the floor strengtheners but otherwise pretty much as expected. Under about three inches of mulch and debris in the battery box I found an original battery tray in great condition. Bonnet is in amazingly good condition.

Thinking ahead (actually way ahead) I believe that I will paint this one Connaught Green. That about as dark a BRG as I have found.

Photos soon.
