I have weird clunk in the rear (of course). But it just occurs when the car has been sitting for a day or more. As soon as I move it in reverse, it clunks and actually feels like it's becoming unstuck from something. Matter of fact, after winter hibernation, I can hardly push it out of the garage until it becomes unstuck. Once it's moving, the sound goes away. Any ideas?
 
I'll wager it's the universal joint(s). If there's any play in them, replace them all. UJ failure can be a rather serious safety issue.

your rear brakes might be hanging up. Pull the drum and check for weak/leaking wheel cylinders or weak springs. I've had this happen on my 75 TR6. I also had to readjust the rear brake adjusters which are located on the backside of the rear wheels. Slacken them a turn and see what happens.
 
No, I don't have wire wheels. It's actually a clunk too, not a "pop". But thanks for your opinion!
 
Mike, you have a rear brake problem, I believe you will find a wheel cylinder has leaked onto the brake shoes and when you applied the brakes the last time you stopped the car they have stuck to the drum. Now to get the wheel off sometimes is a problem, you will have to slacken off the brake adjuster all the way and if you can't get the drum off just frail it with a hammer a couple of times, not to hard of course. You will need tto replace the soiled brake shoes and either rebuild or replace the brake wheel cylinder. Clean up the whole mess with brake cleaner, don't use gas as it leaves a film on the brake drum and it will go right into your new shoes. Wayne

Wayne's right on this one. Its gotta be the brakes with those symptoms.
 
Hello TR6,
do you put the handbrake on when you park?, if you do, don't and see if the clunk goes away. If it does then it's the handbrake mechanism needs some maintenance, if it doesn't then the other suggesstion of leaky cylinder(s) may be right. I'll bet on the handbrake.

I'll check the handbrake too. I do use it and I do believe it needs some maintenance. Thanks guys.
