I know it has been slathered all over the news, but I have to mention the passing of Muhammad Ali. I remember the first Ali Frazier fight even though I was in grade school, it was a big deal to everybody, and we talked about who would win at recess. I know he was a controversial character through the years, but he was one of those talents and bright burning lights that seem to transcend what most of us are capable of and burn a little brighter than the rest.

Agree!

Among many other things, he was a huge inspiration for young folks, including those suffering long term illness. Ali's battle with Parkinsonism continued for over 30 years.

Never could figure out why people have to die before they are praised by others for the good things they have done. It's only after they die that this is brought into the publics view. Same as artists, they have to die before they are recognized and their work becomes valuable. Only the survivors benefit. PJ

Paul, I think Ali was pretty universally respected (always exceptions, but certainly for the most part) and later in life, but he certainly was a controversial figure in the 60s and early 70s.

The one that I thought was a little weird was Michael Jackson who went from being a sort of freakish recluse with some odd habits in the eyes of the press and public when alive to a great artist and wonderful person when he died. Both may have been true, but how the focus and perception shifted was one of the more extreme examples of death changing the perception as I have ever seen.

Well :
Now we have Prince who like Ali and Jackson left a tremendous impression on the wold.
