The Front Clip

74 MGB

Well, I've popped up again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif and progress on the MGB is going along smoothly. I finally got the Body in the carport, and started priming and Wetsanding it. Before i put in the engine/tranny, I need to get the front clip on, and the wheels on it. Now, ive got Lindsay porter's book, the haynes manual, and the chiltons manual, but I thought this would be good "bonding" time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif and it would be easier to get peoples opinions on this. Now, I cant find the bolts for it, they are missing in action. What size bolts would I need and can I just pick them up at any Lowes/Home Depot?auto Store, or do I have to order these buggers? Thanks for all your help guys, and i will have pics up ASAP /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Lindsay Porter's book is very good, I had mine years ago, and it has been very useful. As for the bolts, I would imagine that you would be okay for replacements at a good hardware store........let's see what the consensus is.

It's hard to generalize about bolt size, but many of the body and fender bolts used to put these cars together are standard SAE 1/4-28 (1/4 inch-fine) thread size that are 3/4" or 1" long. These are readily available in the stores you mention. To minimize rusting, I would use plated bolts, nuts and washers. Stainless steel hardware would be even nicer, but obviously, more expensive.
Other common nuts/bolts on these cars are also mostly SAE fine thread (5/16-fine, 3/8-fine and so forth).
