TR4/4A The flywheel surface......

If the surface looks pretty good is it OK to clean it up with a Scotch Brite pad or a very fine sandpaper grade rather than getting the surface skimmed at a machine shop?
 
If it has no heat checks or excessive glazing from heat...you should be good to rough it with sandpaper or scotch brite. If you suspect any overheating, then it is best to surface it.
