I think I just missed this era for high school (though there were equivalent sorts of replacements).
 
The flat-top was in my era.
 
Now I use Mother's to polish the chrome.............dome!!!!
 
Back in college when I had hair, I had the usual Ivy League Crew Cut. My folks hated it. My father said: "You look like a Nazi. Your hair is your crowning glory. Let it grow". I didn't dare. It was the '50s. Everyone had to have the look - khaki pants, dirty white bucks, repp tie and a crew cut. It was the Age of Conformity. The '60s lay ahead.
 
I tend to wear mine in one braid, sometimes (like today) I will wear it in two braids. It tends to get a few looks and when I was younger it drew enough comments that I cut it off when I was twelve.
