the electric car

Tom: How about a mega sound system that is synchronized with the accelerator pedal? Each day you could choose a different engine sound effect. Just think of it. Ferrari, Masserati, Aston, BRM, etc, etc, etc. just dial in the one you want.
Gee, is this a business opportunity?

The Tesla looks like a great car , and very expensive ,

I do not see their business model working , hopefully they have some long term funding ,

Its hard to make a company work selling only expensive nitch marketr EVs,

in fact do they even have any cars to sell right now or just the Demos that they use for the car magazines ?

That engine sound system is a reality, they used it in an episode of MTV's Pimp My Ride. I plead the 5th as to how I know that!

One of the things that I've always been concerned about with electric cars and hybrids is what will be done with the batteries when they're spent?
batteries are actually fairly easy to recycle and there is a demand for the recovered materials (making new batteries) the real problem is that they need to be sorted into types (zinc / nicads/ NiHi....) and that is both time consuming and very expensive.
Car batteries would have a major advantage since they would most likely be swapped at a central location (good for pickup) and rather easy to sort.

What your $5k deposit gets you is a standing room only seat in bankruptcy court,

These guys are flash with nothing to sell today behind them,
so your deposit is payimg for todays smoke and mirrors......

Or maybe I am wrong and its a great business model selling unknown $100k plus cars

time will tell.....

You know, I was looking at that Tesla website and saw the $5K and $55K figures.

Now ... I can *assume* it goes toward the purchase price. But funny that it doesn't actually *say* it goes toward the purchase price.

From the site:

"$5000 refundable reservation fee starts the process and locks in price 'til 12/08.
"Additional $55,000 to lock in a production slot and delivery timeframe."

Shouldn't it say $55K *deposit*? That's a mighty expensive lock!

hmmmmm
