After 28 months of restoration and still dead
in the garage.......................


is it time to throw in the towel, call the tow truck
and send DPO Pedro's evil beast to "The Crusher?"

I'm out of $$ money and the car is no longer a challenge
and no longer fun since the return of miles driven versus
cost in $$ and my time seems to be a no win situation.

$46K in vrs 1,400 miles driven. Car again dead.
I am worn out of attempting to bring life to this car.

All opinions welcome.

In a word NO!! What you are facing now is just normal "old car stuff" Any old car can have issues like this, pretty much any time.The simple fix is just to install a float bowl type fuel filter back near the gas tank, and just drive the car. Empty the filter as required..Drive the car, and enjoy the summer in your TR6!!
 
dale, dont sell it or crush it. youve put far too much money and work into it and you will never get it back by crushing it. i would let it sit for a while if its annoying you now, cause youll only regret getting rid of it. i would go with jesse's advice.......or who knows, when you go back to work you could get a nice new tank and never ever have any problems with the fuel system again.

NOW, after that's said: take stock of what's there. Yes, it was overpriced when purchased. So? The WORST is far behind. About 1400 miles, IMO. Th' stoopid thing has a fuel contamination problem. Likely from junk stirred up when the station's tanks were filled. Do what Jesse has posted and DRIVE th' dam' thing. It's ENGLISH! It's forty year old engineering! It's SUPPOSED to be a challenge, not a conquistador. If the money thing is a show stopper, take a breather and wait. Knee-jerk reaction to a non-running condition now seems to be more emotional than rational. Suggesting you're gonna crush it is... ummm... just not smart.

With that camoflage color, it may go un-noticed.

He's been into the rear suspension kinda deep, so the REAL runnin' bits shouldn't be daunting either.

...If a DENTIST can do it, an ARCHITECT can... :devilgrin: :jester:

Put it on a boat & ship it to Mickey - he'll be driving it daily with no worries in a week!

You're just going through a typical bout of 'quititis', Dale...we all go there from time to time...I could tell you stories of cars that can't seem to get out of their own way until one day, suddenly everything just clicks....you're due but you've gotta think outside the box & stop worrying!

Do what we're telling you - its free: drain the tank, flush the lines, put a new filter in it, fill it up with good 93-octane gas & drive!

There's nothing wrong with that car!
 
Jeepers... Cryptys latest round came at a rotten time diden't it? Can't even take a break to go fishin till this weekend. Gyaahhh!
Well. Turn intrests elswhere for a few days (or more)if ya can. then, when you're ready, tackle this fuel problem one piece at a time. I agree with the idea of trying to find someone to professionally clean the inside of the tank if possible. but that costs$$$.
Cleaning stuff yourself is basically free. just time consuming.
Flush out lines, exchange filters, clean out fuel bowls on carbs.
Depending on how much agenst the idea you are, you could do "round two" of home tank cleaning, and run it while you wait to save up for the pro tank boil-out. but that would mean r&r the tank two times.
Course this all hinges on your level of "burnout" with this TR6.
I still say "close the garage door for a while, and recover"
 
hey guys, does anyone have a decent tank for dale? if we all donated 5 dollars a piece we could buy it coat it and send it to dale to end his anguish...... would anyone be up for that? just a thought good idea or bad?

I'm in, but I don't think that he needs a tank Randy.

elbow grease is all it needs.

I agree with 'ole Banjo, there. I say take a break,
Dale, and come at it after a rest.
 
Hmm this is bad news. Sounds like Tinster needs a vacation!

I shall be in PR next week, and will try to bring some positive restoration vibes from California to the island.

Jlian, that car runs like a bat out of a place we can't mention here! There's nothing wrong with it! If you can get Dale to drain the tank, he'll probably be okay...

Yes, or can Dale send the tank to someone in the USA who can re-furbish it for him and ship it back. I pledge $5 to the project. :thumbsup:
 
Stay with it Dale. Maybe take a break for awhile...

If even I have come to terms with Baldrick, you can too... After driving him last w/e, I found I actually enjoyed it for a change... amazing what a difference a simple change of shoes made...

It's a 40 year old British car... it will NEVER be perfect... but in some ways that is part of the charm... I suppose...

hmmm - something tells me there's got to be someone in Puerto Rico that can clean out a fuel tank. There are gazillions of cars there, there's a British Car Club of Puerto Rico, a Triple AAA, and several guys here at BCF have already suggested radiator shops. It's not like PR is uninhabited. Dale, you started this topic again and we're trying to help. What's the story?

It's great if you're taking a break ... but don't leave us hangin' !
