The compleat boot

That list is either for a grueling endurance trip, or it was a joke; although I have run into a few people with trunks loaded to the hilt like that.

Here's what my trunk looks like normally for shows:

...take the carpet off the spare and...

...taking the wooden plate (1/8" wall paneling I cut with a band-saw)
reveals the inverted spare tire. Its held to the floor with a bolt that
goes through a 1"-thick, round, wooden-block cut to fit inside the wheel
then given 4 coats of polyurethane for protection...

...which further reveals part of my standard "kit". I usually put a quart
of oil (wrapped in a zip-lock just in case) and a fan belt...

Shown in the picture is (left to right, clockwise):
<ul type="square">[*]A zippered bag for the...[*]lug-nuts for the spare and...[*]sockets for the spare and alloy-wheel lug nuts.[*]A spool of safety wire[*]Gloves if I need 'em[*]fix-a-flat[*]large socket wrench for the lug nuts[*]adjustable wrench[*]safety-wire pliars[/list]

For my long trip to Virginia last year I also tossed in my roll of open-ended wrenchs and needle-nose pliars.

I also have a small bag with a detailing kit I carry to shows with a couple of clean microfiber towels, a wad of paper towels, Mother's Chrome Polish (great for the glass, mirrors, chrome, and wheels), Zano or Mother's detailing spray, one or two 100% cotton towels, and a California Dash-Duster.

Of course you can't go without a couple of folding chairs to sit on (I have a couple of really small ones, and two regular size Coleman chairs - both are ok). For overnight and long trips I also stuff my Weathershield car-cover in one of the fenders - with still enough room for my camera equipment, small duffle bag for clothes, etc. Anything else goes behind the seat.

Well,..since my B is still in the body shop,...I can tell you what's in the boot of my Subaru:

All of the new and restored parts for the B! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Assorted bits from the engine bay, parts of the underside of the car,.... basically EVERYTHING except for the motor!
Not to forget, the new carpets, chrome work and emblems! LOL

OK,..two weeks til it gets put back in! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow, i carry a socket set, some screwdrivers, an upper and lower radiator hose, a fan belt, plus a spare and jack but nothing like that. Thats kinda ridiculous unless your planning on going on a several hundred mile trip. :p

I would buy an 8-track BL radio if I could. I lost one on Ebay in the last 15 seconds, but will try again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have a lot of good crusing music on 8 track that still work. But I am also aware of my age, because there are some old albums that I have on Vinyl, 8-track, cassette AND CD /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
But still think an original 8 track radio would be cool /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

NICE TRUNK!!!

Heh, ya know... I remember a day when a comment like that could not possibly be taken out of context. There's a couple of guys around the office here that use that phrase to describe the rear of some of our feminine co-workers...

Back to the topic at hand though. It is indeed one good looking trunk. Looks like a new car... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I carry:

Some dashpot oil (same as the motor)
Some motor oil
A cheap $15 tool set from WalMart
Duct tape
Blanket and pillow
Haynes manual

My list (awhile back) looked long and pessimistic, but it really takes only modest space. For trips where I am within 100 miles of home (AAA Plus covers towing) the parts and tools fit in 3 small bags from Harbor Freight (tools & sealants, electric & ignition, fuel & coolant).

For traveling beyond 100 miles the additional items fit in a 13x18 aluminum case from HF:

Of course this approach may be due in part to where I live & drive since there is a lot of empty space on the map in the Sonoran Desert.
