The BMC Story

Thanks for posting that, a fun watch.

Sad, also, as a reminder of how far the Brits fell in terms of car production. This was produced in the very early 1960s, maybe the height of their auto industry. All it did was fall from there.

A friend told me not long ago that England is the largest car manufacturer in the world as of right now. I didn't really pay attention.....perhaps that was per capita. At any rate the cars aren't of English design.

BTW, Rick, great video and thank's for putting it up!!

Having some manufacturing and engineering back ground I couldn't help but notice all the dangerous situations that OSHA wouldn't allow today! You had to use common sense back then.....something not required today!

Yes, thanks Rick. I worked as a machinist in factories just like that in early 70's. Agree w/ Nomad. Today's big stamping machines won't allow you to put your hands in the way of a potential stamp - but with the common sense that Nomad mentioned, and some caution and fear, I still have all my digits. The paint booth looked worst to me. Particle/dust masks can't be compared to today's pressurized air suits.

There are many books on the BMC and it's demise. "MG" by McComb is wonderful. The focus is the MG, with much crossover to BMC/British Leyland. 376 pages of history packed with photographs directly related to the text on about 90% of the pages. Makes reading easy and interesting. At $20 I can't think of a better printed deal.
