The best man I ever knew

has passed away today around noon. While I take comfort in the fact he went peacefully surrounded by family, it doesn't make it suck any less.

He was a man's man and a soldier's soldier.

Saddened for you, Bill.

I am so very sorry for what you are feeling.

I remember when my Grampa passed. It was much the same. At home, with family. it was how I hope it will be for me. He was an exceptional man as well. Still stinks to this day.But I have a lot of really great memories.
I hope the grief passes for you soon and allows the memories to be sweet.

He was 93 and lived a full, yet sometimes difficult life.

He was still cutting trees down ( w/ what felt like a 80 pound chainsaw) at age 86. He'd often work a man half his age in the shade. ( I was tired from just handing him the saw.)

As simple as they come yet had three degrees. He was a teacher and county school board superintendent for a while.

Proud yet EXTREMELY humble.

A VERY likable guy. I don't think he ever met a stranger.

He was both the toughest and most gentle man I ever met.

He was an extraordinary man. The Grandfather I never had; gave me his old truck. He was the best there is.

The truest of old timer. He will be deeply, deeply missed.

Thanks for listening. It helps. Tomorrow's gonna suck!

Billy,

We (or I)need more people like that in the world -
those are the Men that made America a Great nation, but
didn't want recognition.
If you look in any dictionary under "hero",a story
of a man like that should be in the definition.

- Doug

Sorry for your loss. I've got a friend/mentor in his late 80's who matches, nearly word for word the description you wrote. The mere thought of losing him is too much for me. Thats a generation the likes of which we'll never see again...
