The car picks up speed really quickly going down a hill if you are not careful. Like say, 63mph in a 45mph zone. At least that is what the radar said. Been a while since I got a ticket, and this one will probably cost me a bundle. Just be careful guys, it just takes a coupe seconds.

Kim, some states (like mine) have a program for us old guys who get their first ticket after 20 some years of safe & sane driving.

After I got my ticket for 87 mph on the freeway I sent in a note of explanation with the ticket instead of including a check.
I said I had been a real good boy for a very long time (no tickets for about 25 years) and the car was still new to me and had no working speedometer.
They sent a letter back that said if I'd like to pay a fee ($100) I could have a probation type situation. If I didn't get another ticket for a year the thing would never be on my record.

Well - my year is up! WooHoo!!
 
Have they a similar program for people that just haven't been caught before??? :devilgrin: :jester:
 
I think one of the keys for dealing with the authorities is to be careful about offering more information than what is asked. You wouldn't want to mention for instance that you violate the law every day but this is just the first time you were caught. Instead you could phrase it something like: "this is the first time I've ever had any sort of trouble with speeding".
It's the truth, from a certain perspective.
 
Set a court date, and contest it. Just turning up will often get you a steep reduction in fine or points (usually by about 1/2, up here.)

Radar, or laser? If it's radar, they're fairly easy to contest. Laser, not so much. Lots of good info on the web.

That's bad news Kim. Sorry to hear that. I got caught yesterday leaving an all British Car Show, in a state park by a state cop. A perfect road for a Midget and I couldn't control my urge to go fast. As soon as I came around a corner and saw him, I stood on the brakes. He turned around and ran me down. After admitting I really did not know how fast I was going, he got real nice and quizzed me on the car for about 15 minutes and wrote me a warning ticket. I lucked out. I will now stay off roads that beg me to drive the Midget fast.

Naw, being an old guy, I don't mind mind driving like a sane person most of the time. I just need to stay away from those beautiful winding country roads that beg me to drive faster than the law allows.

I think I will let a lawyer handle this one. I also got wrote up for having a fictitios tag. I had the 71 NC tag on the car and the valid tag and reg in the car. The cop said he had never heard of such a law for antique cars. I told him the statute and paragraph. "Any motor vehicle of the age of 35 years or more from the date of manufacture may bear the license plates of the year of manufacture instead of the current registration plates, if the current registration plates are maintained within the vehicle and produced upon the request of any person." I guess ignorance of the law is an excuse, for the cops :wink:

Wow! Must have been a city or county cop - I've always been amazed at how much more professional the troopers are than the local yokels.
 
Looks like I can get the speed reduced and the tag thing dropped for $250 for all. I know the court cost is now $121 and then there is the fine and spending a day in court. I think I will go this route. The thing is that I rarely speed. I'm the one that drives the speed limit on the interstate and other highways. I guess that yellow gets me looked at more often by the cops as well.
