Wedge Thanks to Waltese Falcon -- TR7 problem cured!

I took Waltese Falcon's advice -- the TR7's air pump is sitting on the benchtop in my garage. Actually took me longer than I expected to remove it, because the bolts are somewhat hard to get at.

Started it up, and no backfires (obviously, since the diverter valve within the pump was stuck.)

I took it around the area for a 10 minute drive...finally I got to rev it up high, and go wide-open-throttle. I was heel toeing around tight corners. MAN THIS CAR IS FUN!

Whomever said TR7s are dogs has never driven one. What unflappable handling, and if you keep up the revs, there's plenty of torque to pull you through!

And that engine just revs!!!!

I'm so much happier. Thanks all you guys for your suggestions, help and encouragement.

Even though I have some dents and dings, I'm going to take the 7 to the All-British Field Meet in Bellevue next weekend instead of the TR3...80 miles on the freeway seems better in the TR7.

Sammy,

I am just happy that after these years of handing out free, often bad advice, I was finally able to help someone. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif Happy driving.

My '80 Spider backfires, too, on most upshifts. I agree, though. The car handles wonderfully and I enjoy driving it hard. The OHC engine revs so much nicer than my previous Spitfires or MGB's or Midget. I always have to watch for speed traps when driving.

Enjoy yours!

Jeff
