I don't even know if I should be posting this, but it's given me room for thought.
I was going through my address book today, and noticed the number of people that I either flew combat with, raced with or against, or otherwise were folks that have had held a special place for me, that have died since the last time I did an update like this. (Only about a year ago, by the way.)
I started thinking of the season, and things in general. How many times had I thought to myself,"I'm going to call Chip tomorrow", or "Crap, I wonder if Tom is still stuck in F-15's? I'll give him a jingle this weekend, and find out what he's up to." Of course, never making either of the calls, because I forgot, something else got in the way, or a myriad of other lame excuses.
By all means, get on the phone, grab a card, do whatever, to let these people know that you remember, and care.
I wound up making about 20 calls tonight, to widows, widowers, and friends. The general consensus was they were all glad to hear from me. We shared stories, laughed, cried, and went on our way.
Life is too short to be taken lightly.
Think about it the next time you wonder "Gee, I remember old what's his name. Wonder what he's doing now?
Didn't mean to be maudlin, but I thought it was worth sharing.
