Thank Goodness For Friends

So now YOU'RE th' EE-vile twin!!!

~I'm~ a "transplant" from Pennsylvania! I *knew* it'd take three generations before progeny would be considered "acceptable"... and WORSE than that: I'm a "Yankeah" with a BEARD!!! (neither could I)/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

Its Ok guys. I just didn't want things to get out of hand. Besides, north of hear they say I have a southern accent and south of hear they say I have a northern accent. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Causes of the "Civil War"..."War Between the States"...

After reading this, the difference between average Joe Blow in the South, and average Joe Blow in the North during the Civil War was very little indeed. Having traveled through out this great country, I must say that this is still the case. Of yeah, you guys in the South talk funny, but other then that... well, maybe your pace is a little slower, I find that where ever I go, most people have the same values and want the same things for their families.

Most visitors to New York City are surprised at how warm and helpful most New Yorkers are...just the same as when us Northeners are greeted with Southern Hospitality.

When I go to my sister's place in Vermont, I'm considered a "Flatlander". So, regional differences abound, even within regions. It's really all in good fun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I think that was actually the initial intent of this post...

American by birth. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif
Southern by the grace of God. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Center of the Confederacy is further South than you think... The new "Southern White House" was actually to be Jeff Davis' home in Boloxi, MS called "Beauvior" That is about South as South gets. Fifty feet more South and you will be in the Gulf of Mexico. So I guess if you live North of I-10 along the coast... your a Yankee.

doc, i lived in savn. "jowga", in the late 70's for a while, drove a tr-6 with n.y. lic. plate "BKLYN-1" the southern police got such a kick out of it they wouldnt give me a ticket even if i deserved one! till this day i have good friends in many of those folks, there no diff. then us yanks, they want the same things we do, work hard-play hard etc. the margin of victory for the north was not that great,no one wants to see brother against brother and thats what it was literaly, the reenactments serve as a wonderful educational tool and i fully appreciate the pride felt in doing so, this altercation was a dark moment in the history of this great country, no one ever wants to see anything like this ever happen again ,besides most of them guys that speak with a "twang" are really good shots. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Had to be... was that or starve. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My PA Granfa'r told tales of luggin' an octagon barrel long gun thru the woods as a kid: had to prop the barrel on a dead tree and WAIT for the squirrel to pass in front of it... so heavy he couldn't lift it to aim at the time! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Alvin C. york - middle name was 'Cullum' - was named for Jerri's greatgrandad...he & Alvin C's dad were business partners for a while when Alvin C was born...all those folks could shoot (or they didn't eat!)

Boy, just made it by 18 miles.

All this is brought home frequently at the reinactments in & around Gettysburg. A great car collecter and all-around nice person hosts a party at his home after the LANCO MG Club Gettysburg car show in July, and this year we were treated to a very large pyrotechnic display on the battlefields below his home. As another member noted, we stand on hallowed, bloodied ground and have to honor the spirits of those who gave thier lives for a cause they believed in. No matter how we may want to "spin" the war, it is a sad point in the history of this great country. (steps gingerly off soapbox so as not to slip on patch of LBC oil)

I've been there many times in my youth, guided by a grandfather keenly interested in making sure his progeny had a real understanding of the history. Sad, tragic, and a whole plethora of terms we may invoke here. Bottom line is: Learn from experience and do not allow 'history' to be repeated.

Same soap-box, same oil slick...
