Well my "War Between the States" reenacting season is now over. (We Rebs don't say "Civil War".) Won't get to see my reenacting buddies till next April. Thank goodness I still got you guys to pass the time with. It's good to have friends! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Gotta say, I've always been able to see both sides to that story... Two of my favorite heros are Aberham Lincoln, and General Robert E.Lee. Both amazingly brilliant men, and each fighting for what they thought was just.

I'd always heard of it as the War for Southern Independence. :smile:

As for "yankee" - Anybody from North of where you're from is a Yankee. When I lived in Raleigh, folks thereabouts just couldn't accept the fact that Virginia is actually part of the South (Capital of the Confederacy and all that).

Finally figured it out. Seems there are two kinds of Yankees: "Yankees" and "Damned Yankees". A "Yankee" is someone down here from up North. A "**** Yankee" is one who won't go back.

hehehehehe...so true...old man across street from me (75) is from Pennsylvania...we all call him "the Yankee" even though he's lived in the South some 40 years...other day he asked when we'd stop calling him that...friend down the street said, "as we carry your casket to the cemetary."

What a hoot!

Hate to tell you this guys.........but anyone from the US of A is referred to as a "Yank" where I'm from, whether from north OR south of the Mason/Dixon line.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
