Just for kicks I decided to put 87 octane in my 76 9.0 to 1 1500 midget Friday. I didn't notice much of a performace difference and couldn't really hear any spark knock on the way home so I thought I might be on to something. However, it seems that the engine wants to run on a bit when I shut it off. Would that be an indication of predetonation even though I can't hear it? On premium the car runs like a top and never tries to run on when I shut her down.
Thanks,
JC

On my 1098 no premium = diesel, diesel, diesel. Sunoco 240 not bit of dieselling.

Check to see if you have a low or high compression engine. That will make a big difference as to which octane it likes!!

It is the high compression engine. It has a fast road cam and a weber carb. I recently upgraded the ignition to a pertronix and it smoothed out significantly. Thanks Jeff!
Most of the gas stations are now chargine a full $0.42 more than regular for premium down here now so I thought I would check to see how it did on 87. I could detune it a bit but it runs so darn good (best since I purchased it) I hate to mess with the settings. I guess I can siphon the 87 out and put it in the lawnmowers....lol. Still, I might try the 89...She is my daily driver, I take her everywhere.

Add some octane booster and use the gas you have! (It's expensive enough as it is...don't waste it!!)
