I have removed the thermostat housing and was able to free the capillary sensor tube but cannot pull it out of the casting. It turns freely, but almost seems like a snap ring prevents the sensor bulb from passing through the opening.
 
I assume you have removed the coupler nut that holds the thermometer bulb into the housing. I don't remember any snap ring. Take a dental pick and clean the crud out of the margins of the hole the bulb goes into and the push it out from the inside.

An overnight soak in PBlaster may help loosen things. There should be nothing but corrosion and mineral deposits holding that in there -- but they can be tough.
 
I removed the thermostat housing and the thermostat and worked the bulb out from the inside.

Tom, I have the housing removed and used a wooden tool to push it loose from the inside, but can only get it to move about 1/16". I remember breaking the tube the last time I tried to remove one so I'm hesitant about using too much force.
 
The only thing I can think of is that the flange on the tube is catching on the threads on the housing. There's no snap ring. Mine was broken where the tube attached to the bulb, so I wasn't too careful and it came out with a bit of wiggling and tapping.

Soak wiggle go slow, like Goe suggested; it should come out that way. I guess someone might have slide an O ring or something in there, but there really is not any room for snap ring.
