Temp Gauge Repair/Replace?

Having just fired up my new to me 1977 MGB, the only gauge not working is the temp gauge. Where to start? How to check? Should I replace with a numerical gauge vs Cold---Hot Please advise. Car runs well, just don't want any overheating issues!!!!!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

If you take the wire off the sending unit and short it to ground (the engine block) the guage should go all the way to max(hot). If not your wiring or guage is the problem.
