This appeared up in eBay:

eBay #4564453157

I'm not normally interested in the later box spridgets, but this one struck my fancy since it's a RHD car (strange fettish of mine). I've got a question into the seller to see if this is originally a RHD or a conversion. Is there any way to know for sure if this is a conversion?

I know that Triumph's had an "L" in the comminssion # for LHD cars. Anything similar?

Thanks all,
-Drew

I would find it hard to believe someone would go to all the trouble of changing to RHD. Changing to LHD yes but the other way around...???

It would be a LOT of work, steering rack, dashboard, rerouting the clutch and brake lines. I imagine the car was always RHD.

There was actually a pretty nice looking TR4 on eBay a couple of weeks ago where the owner had done just that - converted it from a LHD to a RHD. The bidding seemed to be a lot lower than normal for the car (based on auctions I've watched for cars in similar condition).

I have the parts to make a RHD car that I got off a car imported from scotland that was left outside and covered by overgrowth. I'd do the swap if I had the time, it would be pretty cool to have one of the few right hand drive brit cars in CT.

I'm emailing the guy to see If I can go check the car out, If its a yes, I'll get some pics and see if it's a real RHD or a conversion.

I think all Spridgets came with the "L" or "R" as to which hand drive they were. Or in North America all BMC cars had the "L" for left hand drive.
And I am one of those idiots that converted from left to right hand drive.
Why? Because I got a deal on an NOS RHD dashboard /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif It was an easy weekend conversion.
So now my wife and kids can shift with either hand.
RHD does turn heads and get the classic "Your steering wheel is on the wrong side" remarks but I have my own comeback.
Infact RHD saved the day 3 weeks ago when my son got married.
We used 6 Sprites in the wedding party. One kid had lost his license so he rode on the correct side of the car while my daughter did the driving. All the pictures look like all the guys are driving /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'd love to see some of those, and get your opinion on the car if you do go check it out. I've got a strange thing for RHD, and this has made me quite interested in this car, even though it's on the other side of the country from me.

I did get an email response from the seller, and he said it was RHD from birth.

I went to look at the car, it is indeed a RHD car. Fairly decent for being a 40 year old car.

Are you going to make a bid for it? Turns out, I've stumbled across another car (see the Triumph forum), a TR4 that I'm going to go with. It's got a few more things I like, and is close enough to go get. Shipping quotes from the east coast were killing me!
