TR6 Teardown of a 150k TR6 engine...

The original engine from my TR6 is going into a British built kit/replica of a Ferrari Type 48 called a Corsa Spyder (there is a thread in the "Other British Cars" section). I had originally stored this engine away when I pulled it out of my TR6 in 2001, and installed my "performance" engine. Here, 8 1/2 years later it is coming out of storage to be given a fresh rebuild and will be replacing a knackered 2.0 litre Triumph I-6 already powering this kit car. When the engine was removed from my TR6 it was still a very well running engine that only smoked when cold (for about 30 seconds) and was still holding 25 psi of oil pressure at idle when warm. It had turned just over 150,000 miles when it was replaced. 50,000 of those miles were with the external auxillary oil line in place and feeding the rocker assembly a healthy dose of dinosaur juice. This engine had never been apart before. The rod and main bearings are both "standard" as are the pistons. Both thrust washers were still solidly in place and the crankshaft thrust was .008", right at the outside limit. The bearings do show wear with a couple of rods bearings showing a good bit of copper. The cam and lifter show wear as well, but still look good for 150k miles. Here are some photos of the tear down of the block.

There was no excessive wear or damage anywhere and the new bearins for both the rods and mains will be .010" under and the pistons will be .020" oversized.

These engines can last very well, my 90,000 2.5 6 I tore down needed nothing more than a crank polish and cylinder hone, new rings and bearings (I did a few more things when I was in there) and the thrust washer had not dropped although I did not get a great measurement of the wear before replacing.

Nice. I wonder how many more miles you could have gotten out if it in that condition.
