T-Series TD OIL LEAK

I was expecting it and I can't get upset about it but my newly arrive toy had oil under it this morning after yesterday's 50-mile maiden run. About a half teaspoon full under
the large drain hex cap of the transmission. It does not appear to leak just standing, but only as a result of my drive. The drain plug is tight. I realize that where oil drips is not necessairly the source. My guess is that a 53 year old anything containing liquid leaks! and I should not compare it to my modern cars. Any comments, and how tough is it to check the tranny oil once in a while to avoid running low??

s hess, pull your carpet back on the right hand side of your transmission tunnel, there should be a rubber plug or mostly I find tape of some sort now covering a hole in the tunnel. When you pull the plug out you should find a dip stick with a finger pull, that tells you how much oil iis in the tranny and the large brass plug is for filling it up, if needed. In any case welcome to the forum, the car looks great. Wayne

I may not be recalling correctly, but I believe that the rear oil thrower type seal will almost always drop a little oil after a good run. Moss makes a replacement type seal that stops it, but if it has the standard setup there's not much that can be done but put down a drip pan. There has been quite a bit of discussion about the Moss kit on other boards...here's one I had bookmarked...

Hello, s hess!

Fellow (newbie) TD owner here. Mine leaks also, after driving it, I noticed. I can clean out the drain pan under the car and while it's sitting in the garage, not much more leaks. I guess it's normal...just top it off.

Welcome to the forum!

P.S. Can we see some more pictures of your new baby? It looks really nice based on your forum profile photo.

Thanks for the kind words. i will post some more shots tomorrow. Your TD looks the same.

I spoke with two or three experts and they all said the same thing: they leak. The consensus was not to worry about it unless it is really bad. A teaspoon after a hard run is well within "normal"
