New member Woblynne has a 68 MG Midget and I have a 63 Mini Wagon and they are both Tartan Red. But are they REALLY??
I checked - the word Tartan is Scottish in origin and refers to a pattern consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Tartan is made with alternating bands of colour that forms visible diagonal lines where different colours cross, giving the appearance of new colours blended from the original ones. The resulting blocks of colour repeat vertically and horizontally in a distinctive pattern of squares and lines known as a sett.
I've seen pictures of Woblynne's car and I own my car and while they are both in fact red, I can state without hesitation that neither one of them have criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Furthermore, both of our cars are of ENGLISH origin, NOT Scottish! Silly people who give names to things ought to pay MORE attention to getting them correct!!! And there is NO ham in hamburgers EITHER!!! LOL
(I warned you up front this was a silly musing!! Happy Tuesday!! Doc'll be the first to jump on this, I'm sure!! )
